Endeavour HQ Dyslexia Assessments
Dyslexia is thought to affect around 1 in 10 people - making it one of the most common learning difficulties. Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty which affects the way individuals process language, making it challenging to read, write and spell. Dyslexia can also affect other skills such as mathematics, reading comprehension and learning another language. It is not linked to intelligence, but rather differences in how the brain interprets written and spoken words. Dyslexia can vary in severity, and is frequently accompanied by strengths in creativity, problem-solving and thinking outside the box. Often people are unaware that they have dyslexia, and that this is the reason behind their difficulties, but with a formal diagnosis and proper support, people with dyslexia can thrive academically and professionally.
Endeavour HQ provides full diagostic dyslexia assessments, which investigate an individual’s reading, writing and processing ability, and provides a clear picture of strengths, specific areas of difficulty and educational needs. Assessments can be conducted from the age of eight through to adulthood, and at Endeavour HQ, these are carried out by Sarah Smith, who is a qualified dyslexia specialist. Sarah wll be in receipt of the assessment practising certificate in the new year, and currently has a waiting list open for those wanting to be assesed in 2026.

At Endeavour HQ, we also offer specialist tutoring sessions to support those with dyslexia and literacy difficulties.
How do the assessments work?
A full diagnostic dyslexia assessment takes approximately three hours to complete, depending on the needs and concentration levels of the individual, and it uses a variety of assessment tools as well as background information to collate a detailed report. All assessments are conducted face-to-face in a quiet, calm and supportive environment, to help individuals feel comfortable and perform their best.
The assessment measures:
Underlying ability
Short term memory
Working memory
Processing speed
Phonological awareness
Phonological memory
Rapid naming
Word reading
Reading speed
Reading efficiency
Reading comprehension
Writing speed
The results are considered and analysed, and once completed, the report is sent in a password protected email. Reports and information are strictly confidential, and details are not passed on to other parties unless specifically requested.
What are the benefits of having a dyslexia assessment?
The report delivers a clear insight into strengths and areas of difficulty for current and future education and work settings.
Dyslexia is a recognised disability, so a diagnosis of dyslexia can provide some protection under the Equality Act 2010.
The report includes tailored recommendations with helpful strategies and reasonable adjustments that can be made in school or in the work place.
It provides greater self-awareness for the person being assessed - often boosting their self-esteem.
The assessment provides evidence for exam access arrangements for Key Stage 2 SATs, GCSEs, A-Levels, University exams and professional qualifications (such as extra time, the use of assistive technology, and the use of a reader and/or scribe) to ensure individuals with dyslexia are able to reach their full potential.
For individuals who are over the age of 16, a diagnostic assessment supports applications for disabled students’ allowance.
